I've lost count of the number of videos I've seen online over the years where a police officer tries to apprehend a suspect, only for the situation to escalate into a struggle on the ground. Often times, the criminal ends up on top, taking control while the officer fights for his or her life. I plan to change all that for anyone who is willing to learn some basic essential ground skills.

The video below illustrates that even when the officer is in the dominant position, he still lacks the necessary control in order to execute the arrest effectively. If a good samaritan had not been there to help, this may have ended very differently.

Here is a scene that is all too familiar!

Consistent BJJ training enhances mental clarity for critical decision-making in high-pressure scenarios by embedding movements and techniques into instinctive muscle memory. This becomes especially vital when you consider more than half of all shootings that kill law enforcement officers occur within a distance of 10 feet. In a confrontation with a resisting individual, an officer's ability to instinctively control allows them to concentrate on vital cues, such as whether the person is reaching for a weapon or if another threat is approaching from behind.

For an untrained individual, managing another person is a reactive process that requires recognizing behavior recalling training, and executing the appropriate response. In contrast, a trained individual acts reflexively, similar to how one uses the accelerator and brake in a vehicle. This mindset enables officers to process additional information, communicate effectively on the radio, and conduct better threat assessments.

The heightened situational awareness gained through BJJ training is essential for ensuring safety and control during unpredictable encounters.
